Gender equality for sustainable economic growth and political strengthening: Women constitute about half of the population and their participation will enhance a gender balance as well as building vibrant democracies and policies that benefit all. Gender diversity in public institutions is particularly crucial, given that these decision-making bodies create the rules that affect people’s rights, behaviors and life choices. Let's support women inclusion in governance. Life's most persistent and urgent question is "WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR OTHERS?''....your support is of importance. International Women's Day (IWD) 2022 comes up on 8th of March with the theme: Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow. #BreakTheBias

WOMEN IN GOVERNANCE; HFDI TRAINED TO RE-TRAIN

In pursuit of our goals and objectives under good governance as a thematic area, Hope for Family Development Initiative (HFDI) attended a workshop for women on Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) organized by Pan African Women Projects in partnership with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Keynote Address was delivered by Prof. Olabisi Aina from the Department of Sociology/Anthropology, OAU, Ile-Ife who is also the visiting professor and Director, Center for Gender, Humanitarian and Development Studies, Redeemers University, Ede, Osun State. She analyzed the importance of involvement of women in electoral process and activities and thereby enjoined women to actively participate in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration which is the major prerequisite to participate in the upcoming elections.

Prof. Aina also showed us the current level of involvement and participation of women in politics in the country with a graphical representation of the percentage of women in the Federal House of Representative and the Senate. She further emphasized on how pertinent it is for Nigerian women to gear up and take positions of higher authority in governance because when important decisions are been taken, it usually bent toward better equity and this can only happen when women are there and fully involved.
